Fermentation Temp Range
Each yeast strain has a temperature range where it performs best. Lagers require cooler temps, while Kveik yeasts can ferment in extreme heat. Maintaining the proper fermentation temperature for each yeast strain is crucial its health. Matching a yeast's ideal range to your environment (or your ability to control temp) is key to getting clean, consistent results.

Description

Looking for yeast to homebrew Belgian wheat beers? Try Safale BW-20 Belgian Wheat Beer Dry Yeast, a specialty yeast for Belgian-style whites or Witbiers.

Safale BW-20 Belgian Wheat Beer Dry Yeast is a POF+ (Phenolic Off Flavor Positive) yeast designed for producing Belgian style wheat beers. It exhibits neutral fruity flavor and specific phenolic character (think clove and peppery notes).

This Witbier yeast strain is less phenolic than other Fermentis yeast strains, so it produces an aromatic but milder base beer. This allows the brewer to add ingredients, like orange peel or coriander, as is traditional in Belgian wits!

This BW 20 yeast strain does not completely ferment maltotriose (a fermentable sugar in wort), resulting in a fuller mouthfeel. SafAle BW-20 has medium sedimentation, forming no clumps but a powdery haze when resuspended in the beer. This yeast thrives in a fermentation temperature range of 64.4 - 78.8ºF.

This active dry beer yeast does not require hydration or a yeast starter to begin fermentation. But if you want to reduce lag phase and grow yeast cell count, consider our Yeast Starter Kit. This 11 gram packet treats a 5 gallon batch of beer.
