This yeast hails from Weihenstephan in Germany, but is used world wide. This strain produces beers with a balance of floral and fruity aromas. It finishes with clean flavors for incredibly drinkable beers.
This lager yeast is different than ale yeasts. Lager yeasts thrive in cooler fermentation temperatures. SafLager W-34/70 German Lager Dry Yeast is a particularly flexible and forgiving yeast strain. It can tolerate warmer fermentations (up to 72 °F) without producing noticeable off-flavors. Though, this strain does perform best in a fermentation temperature range of 53 - 64 °F.
This active dry yeast does not require hydration or a yeast starter to begin fermentation. If you want to reduce lag phase and grow yeast cell count, consider our Yeast Starter Kit. This 11g packet treats a 5 gallon batch of beer.
