No. Belgian white ale is a dry, refreshing style. The wheat and oat base gives it body and smoothness, but LalBrew Wit yeast ferments cleanly and the beer finishes balanced and crisp.

Belgian White Ale is one of the most celebrated wheat beer styles in the world — pale, hazy, and defined by its interplay of citrus, spice, and soft wheat character. This all-grain recipe is inspired by the wit bier tradition made famous by Allagash Brewing, giving all-grain brewers full control over the mash for the deepest possible expression of the style.

LalBrew Wit is an ideal match for all-grain brewing — its low flocculation keeps the beer naturally suspended for a beautifully hazy pour, while its balanced fruity and spicy character complements the rich body and haze produced by a white wheat and oat grain bill mashed from scratch.

This 5-gallon all-grain recipe kit includes all the ingredients needed to brew Belgian White Ale at home:

Briess 2-Row Base Malts
Carapils, flaked oats, white wheat malt specialty grains
Nugget hops
Crystal hops
Saaz hops
Bitter orange peel
Coriander
Grains of paradise
Your choice of yeast (dry yeast, liquid yeast, or no yeast if you have your own)
Step-by-step brewing instructions

Note: You will need a 5-gallon all-grain brewing system. Brewing equipment is not included.

Brewing your Belgian White Ale follows a classic witbier all-grain process:

Mash: Convert grain starches into fermentable sugars at a moderate mash temperature to preserve the soft, hazy wheat body
Sparge: Rinse the grains to collect the full wort
Boil: Add Nugget hops at 60 min for clean bittering and Crystal hops at 10 min for floral aroma
Spice: Add orange peel and coriander at flame-out; add Saaz hops and grains of paradise at whirlpool once wort is in the ice bath
Ferment: Ferment with Belgian yeast to develop the beer's signature haze, subtle clove and pepper character, and clean citrusy finish
Enjoy: Ready to drink in about 4–5 weeks

Liquid yeast can deliver excellent fermentation performance and a wider range of strain options, but it’s a living, perishable product that requires a little extra care.

Liquid yeast may arrive warm. Ice packs help reduce heat exposure but do not guarantee cold arrival.
Refrigerate it when received and plan to brew as soon as possible.
We recommend adding an insulated mailer + ice pack to liquid yeast orders.
During May–September, dry yeast is strongly recommended due to higher shipping temperatures.
Liquid yeast is final sale and cannot be replaced due to heat exposure during transit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this kit include brewing equipment?

No. This is an ingredient-only 5-gallon all-grain recipe kit. Brewing equipment is not included, and this kit is designed for brewers who already own a 5-gallon all-grain brewing setup.

What does all-grain brewing mean for this style?

All-grain brewing uses whole malted grains instead of malt extract, giving you full control over the mash and a deeper, more complex flavor. For a Belgian white ale, this means a richer haze, fuller wheat body, and more expressive grain character than extract brewing alone can achieve.

Is this beer sweet?

Belgian white ale has a soft, pillowy body from the wheat and oat base, but it's not a sweet beer. The spice additions — orange peel, coriander, and grains of paradise — keep the finish dry, aromatic, and refreshing rather than sweet.

How long does it take to brew and drink?

Brew day takes about 4–5 hours. After that, fermentation takes around two weeks, followed by two weeks of bottle conditioning. Most brewers have their first pour ready in about four to five weeks total.

Is this recipe kit beginner friendly?

This all-grain recipe kit is intended for advanced brewers with all-grain brewing equipment. If you're new to brewing, we recommend starting with one of our extract recipe kits, which are designed to be beginner-friendly and require less equipment.

Is this recipe available year-round?

Yes. The Belgian White Ale All-Grain Recipe Kit is available year-round.
