✅ Beginner-friendly with step-by-step brewing support

Belgian Golden Ale is a study in beautiful contradiction — brilliantly clear and golden, yet formidably strong; light-bodied and effervescent, yet layered with spicy, fruity complexity. Devil in Disguise is inspired by this legendary style, scaled to a full 5-gallon batch built to impress.

Innocently pale with a light, airy body. Devilishly strong at 8.8% ABV.

Pilsen dry malt extract provides a clean, pale foundation. Munich malt and aromatic malt add soft malt complexity without adding color or weight. Dextrose — the authentic Belgian technique for building alcohol while keeping the beer bone dry and golden — pushes the ABV to a sinfully strong 8.8%. Styrian Goldings hops add earthy, herbal bitterness across two additions, Saaz provides delicate floral and spicy character at the finish, and Belgian ale yeast delivers classic fruity esters and full attenuation that make this style dangerously drinkable.

This 5-gallon recipe kit includes all the ingredients needed to brew Devil in Disguise Belgian Golden Ale at home:

7.5 lb Pilsen Dry Malt Extract
1 lb Dextrose
Styrian Golding (Bittering) Hop Packet
Styrian Golding (Late Bittering) Hop Packet
Saaz (Aroma) Hop Packet
Steeping Grains (Biscuit Malt & Aromatic Munich Malt)
Grain Steeping Bag
Your choice of yeast (dry yeast, liquid yeast, or no yeast if you have your own)

Note: Brewing equipment is not included. This kit is designed for brewers who already own a 5-gallon brewing setup.

Brewing your Belgian Golden Ale follows a clean, straightforward process — patience during conditioning is what separates a good result from a great one:

Brew: Steep specialty grains, boil the wort, and add Styrian Goldings at 60 and 30 minutes
Finish: Add Saaz hops at 5 minutes and stir dextrose into the wort at the end of the boil until fully dissolved
Ferment: Ferment with your selected Belgian ale yeast to develop fruity esters and full attenuation for a dry, clean finish
Bottle: Bottle condition to build the rich, dense head characteristic of Belgian golden ales
Enjoy: Ready to drink in about 6 weeks

Allowing adequate conditioning time lets the fruity esters and spicy hop character fully integrate.

Liquid yeast can deliver excellent fermentation performance and a wider range of strain options, but it’s a living, perishable product that requires a little extra care.

Liquid yeast may arrive warm. Ice packs help reduce heat exposure but do not guarantee cold arrival.
Refrigerate it when received and plan to brew as soon as possible.
We recommend adding an insulated mailer + ice pack to liquid yeast orders.
During May–September, dry yeast is strongly recommended due to higher shipping temperatures.
Liquid yeast is final sale and cannot be replaced due to heat exposure during transit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this kit include brewing equipment?

No. This is an ingredient-only recipe kit. Brewing equipment is sold separately.

What flavors should I expect from this beer?

Expect a brilliantly clear golden beer with a rich, pillowy head. Earthy and herbal Styrian Goldings bitterness, delicate Saaz spice and floral notes, and fruity esters from Belgian yeast combine for a complex, dry finish. The dextrose keeps the beer light-bodied and dangerously drinkable at 8.8% ABV.

Is this beer sweet?

No. Belgian Golden Ale is a dry, effervescent style. The dextrose ferments out completely, contributing alcohol without residual sweetness. The finish is clean, dry, and refreshing.

How long does it take to brew and drink?

Plan for about 6 weeks total — roughly three weeks of active fermentation followed by three weeks of bottle conditioning. Conditioning time is important for developing the dense, creamy head and integrated hop character the style is known for.

Is this kit beginner friendly?

Yes. The extract-based brewing process is approachable for homebrewers at all levels. Following fermentation and conditioning timelines will give you the best results.

Is this recipe available year-round?

Yes. This recipe kit is available year-round.
