This Rye IPA 5 Gallon beer recipe kit helps you brew a hop-forward American IPA with spicy rye malt character, layered citrus aroma, and a dry, assertive finish, ready to drink in about four weeks.
Makes 5 gallons (approximately 48–54 bottles) of Rye IPA
Ready to drink in about 4 weeks
American IPA brewed with rye malt
Bold hop aroma with citrus and pine character
The clearest read on the rye
Rye gives a peppery grip that is easy to lose under other flavors. US-05 finishes dry and stays completely neutral, so the Carolina Rye and Munich Rye come through clean against the Amarillo and Citra. If you have not brewed with rye before, this is the version that shows you what it does.
Ferment at 64-79°F
Attenuation 78-82%
Flocculation Medium
Clean and neutral
Rounder, with the rye softened
Flagship gives you a fuller rye IPA, with the pepper sitting a little softer than US-05 leaves it. It contributes nothing of its own, so the Carolina Rye and Munich Rye are still the story. It takes its time going bright.
Ferment at 60-72°F
Attenuation 73-77%
Flocculation Low-Medium
Extremely clean
Nutty against peppery rye
1272 leans nutty with a slightly tart finish while rye runs peppery and dry, so the two pull in usefully different directions. It leaves the most malt of the four behind, which gives the rye something to push against. It clears without help.
Ferment at 60-72°F
Attenuation 72-76%
Flocculation Medium-High
Soft, nutty, clears clean
The sharpest, most bitter forward version
Omega's West Coast strain matches US-05 for dryness and can go further still, which suits a rye IPA carrying a big Amarillo, Citra and Chinook whirlpool. Rye already tastes dry and peppery, so this takes the beer to its crispest, most assertive expression. Its window is narrow.
Ferment at 64-72°F
Attenuation 78-84%
Flocculation Medium
Crisp and highly attenuative

Flavor Profile & Beer Style
The Rye IPA is a hop-forward IPA with added complexity from rye malt. Tangy, slightly spicy rye notes create a dry backbone that enhances hop bitterness and aroma rather than competing with it.
A blend of citrus-forward hop varieties delivers bright notes of grapefruit, orange, and pine, resulting in a bold yet balanced IPA with a distinctive rye-driven character.

How the Brewing Process Works
Brewing your Rye IPA highlights how specialty grains and hop timing shape bold beer styles:
Brew: Steep specialty grains, boil the wort, and add hops according to schedule
Ferment: Ferment with ale yeast until clean and stable
Dry Hop: Add hops during fermentation for enhanced aroma
Enjoy: Ready to drink in about 4 weeks
Rye malt contributes a subtle spice and dryness that balances the beer’s hop-forward profile.
New to Liquid Yeast?
Liquid yeast can deliver excellent fermentation performance and a wider range of strain options, but it’s a living, perishable product that requires a little extra care.
Liquid yeast may arrive warm. Ice packs help reduce heat exposure but do not guarantee cold arrival.
Refrigerate it when received and plan to brew as soon as possible.
We recommend adding an insulated mailer + ice pack to liquid yeast orders.
During May–September, dry yeast is strongly recommended due to higher shipping temperatures.
Liquid yeast is final sale and cannot be replaced due to heat exposure during transit.
Drinkers who prefer bold bitterness with a dry finish
Because it’s brewed in larger volume, it’s well suited for sharing, cellaring, and hop-forward beer fans.
